ῥάβδος, ἡ, 1) Ruthe, Gerte, Stab; bes. – a) eine Zauberruthe, die in andere Gestalten verwandelt; vom Zauberstabe der Circe, Od. 10, 238. 319. 389; der Athene, 13, 429. 16, 172. 456, des Hermes, τῇ τ' ἀνδρῶν ὄμματα ϑέλγει, τούς τ' αὖτε καὶ ὑπνώοντας ἐγείρει, Il. 24, 343 Od. 5, 47. 24, 2; – auch Angelruthe, περιμήκης, 12, 251. – b) der Stab als Zeichen der Würde, Herrscher-, Richterstab, wie σκῆπτρον, ἀκινήταν ἔχε ῥάβδον Ἅιδας, Pind. Suppl. 245 wird es = ῥαβδοφόρος erkl., aber die Lesart ist unsicher. – Die Accentuation ῥᾶβδος, von Eust. angeführt, ist von Bekker im Aristot. aufgenommen. – Verwandt mit ῥάσσω, ῥαπίς.

ῥάβδος, ἡ,A rod, wand, Hom. (v. infr.), etc.; lighter than the βακτηρία or walking-stick, X.Eq.11.4 (but = βακτηρία, Ev.Matt.10.10, al.). —Special uses:1 magic wand, as that of Circe, Od.10.238, 319, etc.; that with which Athena touched Odysseus, to restore his youthful appearance,χρυσείῃ ῥάβδῳ ἐπεμάσσατο 16.172
